Towards the Night blev oprindeligt foreslået af Torben Enghoff til brug for en koncert i Jazzhouse 24701/02, hvor Thomas Clausen skulle improvisere til sax-kvartetten "In the Dead of Night". Torben synes godt jeg måtte komme med et bud på, hvad klaveret kunne/skulle lave. Dette bud komponerede jeg så, uden at ændre en tone i sax-forlægget. Interessant nok kom slutresultatet til at give kvartetten endnu en ny farve, således at også denne version fremstår som et selvstændigt værk. Ved jazzhousekoncerten fik mit bud nu ikke den store indflydelse. Hvilket dog på ingen måde gjorde noget som helst.

Programnote

Towards the Night is a recomposition of the sax 4-tet "In the Dead of Night". Which in turn is a recomposition of "Ghostlands", a concerto for sax 4-tet and sinfonietta. The extensive screaming of the opening is now counterpointed with a pianopart, which during the piece points out new formal divisions and possibilities in this well tried material.
